Twenty years later, the final opponent in the illustrious professional boxing career of Mike Tyson leads a radically different existence.

After 20 years in the sport, Tyson’s professional career came to an end in 2005.

During his career, he won all five heavyweight world titles, but he is most remembered for the horrific ear-bite bout he had with Evander Holyfield.

One of the biggest upsets in boxing history occurred when he lost to Buster Douglas in Tokyo, Japan, although he also had notable wins over Frank Bruno, Michael Spinks, and Larry Holmes.

But in June 2005, after suffering a stoppage loss against Irish fighter McBride, his career came to an end.

After the sixth round, Tyson gave up on the stool, allowing his opponent to win by technical knockout. ‘Iron Mike’ ended his illustrious career following the bout.

After his career-altering victory, McBride—who was only thirty-two at the time—was unable to sustain his momentum and lost six of his next eight bouts.

Mariusz Wach stopped him in the fourth round of their 2011 rematch, and he went on to have a 35-10-1 career record.

What does McBride do for a living?

McBride’s life now is entirely different.

Prior to Tyson’s 2020 exhibition matchup with Roy Jones Jr., McBride disclosed that he is currently employed as a tree surgeon.

“I work with a tree surgeon now,” he explained. “He has me dropping trees, clearing snow, shouting ‘timber’, and all that. It is good.

“It keeps me busy. My job is I pick things up and I put things down.

“It [the Tyson fight] is coming up more often at the moment because every time they say about him making a comeback, they say I was the last guy to beat him. I like that.

“I don’t sit around re-watching the fight, but someone put a clip on Facebook recently and I saw it. Dream come true, isn’t it?”

Jake Paul was scheduled to battle McBride last month in an exhibition match, and Paul would have been the one to try and break McBride’s impressive record of being the last man to defeat Tyson.

However, “Iron Mike” experienced an ulcer flare-up during a plane ride, thus the fight was called off and rescheduled for November 15.
