The competitor from Pakistan fouled his first effort in the final, but on his second try, he broke the record and shot to the top.
Arshad Nadeem, a javelin thrower from Pakistan, broke the Olympic record on Thursday at the Stade de France at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His throw was 92.97 meters.
The previous best javelin thrower was Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen. 16 years ago, he made it to a distance of 90.57 meters at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Arshad set a personal best of 90.18 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He went on to win silver at the 2023 World Championships. He had won the gold medal with the throw.

The Pakistani athlete began the final with a foul attempt but quickly rose to the top with a record throw on his second attempt.
Neeraj Chopra of India came in second after making two tries, with a throw that measured 89.45 meters.
