Sports Desk – India has been placed in Pool A along with defending champions Argentina and world number one team Australia in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Apart from these, India’s pool includes Spain, New Zealand, and Japan.
Pool B features Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, and South Africa. The pool was announced by FIH’s administrative body FIH on Saturday. India currently ranks fifth in world hockey. The same month in Bhubaneswar, India qualified for the Olympics by defeating Russia 11–3 aggregate.
At the same time, the Indian women’s team also got a place in Pool A. He is accompanied by defending champions Great Britain and the world’s number one team, the Netherlands. Also, Pool A consists of Germans, Ireland and South Africa. Pool B comprises Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Spain, China and hosts Japan.
The Indian women’s team is currently ranked ninth in the world. India qualified for the Olympics by defeating the United States with a 6-5 aggregate. The FIH issued a press release saying, “The same procedure has been adopted to determine the pool that was adopted in Rio Olympic 2016. All the teams in the top 16 rank are included in it, so the fans can see tough competition next year in Tokyo.
Hockey will be played at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from 25 July to 7 August next year at the newly built OI Hockey Stadium. The timings of the matches will be announced later.
