Xabi Alonso has named three players that he would like to sign as a Real Madrid manager.
Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, is said to have set some requirements for taking over from Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager, including the recruitment of three players from the Bundesliga club.
Leverkusen hired Xabi Alonso after a disappointing start to the 2022-23 season under Gerardo Seoane. Alonso transformed the struggling team into one of the finest in Europe, bringing them to the UEFA Europa League semifinals.
This season, Alonso’s team has been one of the finest in Europe, with an outstanding start to the Bundesliga season. They have only lost one point in seven league games this season, a 2-2 tie at home to champions Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants Alonso to succeed Ancelotti as manager, and the Spanish strategist wants three Leverkusen players to join him at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Fichajes.
Jeremie Frimpong, a Dutch right back, is one of the best offensive full-backs in the world, with productivity comparable to that of certain forwards. This season, the 22-year-old has two goals and three assists in the league and will be an excellent substitute for Dani Carvajal.
Victor Boniface, a Nigerian striker, has taken the Bundesliga by storm since joining from Union Saint-Gilloise for €20 million this summer. Alonso is also interested in the 22-year-old, who has seven goals in seven league outings.
Alonso also wants German midfielder Florian Wirtz to join him in Spain. This season, the 20-year-old has one goal and three assists for Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso Wants To Start A New Era At Real Madrid If He Takes Over
While Real Madrid has made wise and significant investments in certain places, there is a noticeable dearth of quality in others. Xabi Alonso will aim to improve certain positions in order to make the team more balanced.
The right-back position has proven to be difficult for the club as Carvajal has gotten older. Lucas Vazquez, a Spanish winger who has been converted to a right-back, is not an elite deputy for his country.
Similarly, following the departure of Karim Benzema in the summer, the club lacks a marquee striker this season. They’ve persevered with Joselu, but Alonso will want to bring in a striker who won’t cost an arm and a leg.
Zinedine Zidane, the most successful Real Madrid manager in modern history, was also a former player. After seeing what Xabi Alonso has done in Germany, Perez will be eager for him to take over.
