Joao Felix has left Atletico Madrid to join Chelsea on loan until June 2023
Diego Simeone and Joao Felix’s relationship has not been so good lately. The youngster wanted to leave Atletico Madrid as soon as possible and so he decided to join the Premier League side Chelsea, even if it means on loan.
In 2019, Atletico brought Felix for a whooping of €126 million which made him one of the most expensive players in football history. His journey with the club didn’t go well as expected but he did help his team in every way possible.
“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” Felix said in a club statement.
The Portuguese scored 34 goals in 131 appearances for Atletico Madrid. And now he has to make sure Chelsea finishes into the top 4 spots on Premier League points table this season.
The Blues are having a tough time recently and are currently sitting on 10th position on the points table. Felix must show his top class for the club in order to play in the Champions League next season.
Chelsea are suffering through a lots of injuries including their main defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante who has been out since October 2022. Big names like Ben Chilwell, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Reece James are also injured so it’s a serious situation at the Stamford Bridge right now.
“The injuries maybe sharpened the focus a bit,” Graham Potter told reporters. “It was good to get him [Felix] in training today and we will see about playing on Thursday. He is a quality player who can make a difference in the final third of the pitch. He’s young but still has experience. From a physical perspective, he can go in. It’s always a little bit of an unknown period as he is going from one club to another, but that’s on a case-to-case basis.”
