In the middle of the MLS Cup, in which they are leading the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami announced a new signing on Tuesday, April 23 (before the end of the MLS transfer window).
He is Matias Rojas, an attacking midfielder from Paraguay who comes from Brazilian club Corinthians. He was granted free agency after a less-than-stellar stint with the club, spending less than a year there.
Prior to that, he added impressive stats to his CV at Racing de Avellaneda, where he was coached by Fernando Gago, who is currently the head coach of Chivas in Mexico.
The 28-year-old, an unquestionable international with the national team and a Paraguayan who made his professional debut with Cerro Porteno, joins Lionel Messi and the company’s squad with a one- or two-year deal that might be extended based on performance.
Along with fellow countryman Diego Gomez, who is anticipated to miss four to six weeks due to injury, Rojas will travel to the Copa America with the Daniel Garnero-coached national squad.
Inter Miami feels great to have signed Rojas
Chris Henderson, sporting director of the Herons said in an official statement: “We are delighted to sign attacking midfielder Matias Rojas. He is a skilled and experienced player at both club and international level whose versatility we believe will be an asset to the team.
“We believe this addition helps strengthen our team as we aim to compete for titles after a strong start to the MLS season,” Henderson concluded.
Inter Miami celebrates Rojas’ exploits in its news statement, stating that the Guarani has 37 goals and 18 assists in 205 club appearances with Racing, Cerro Porteno, Lanus, Defensa y Justicia, and Corinthians of Brazil, as well as one goal in 18 caps with his national side.
