Let’s know the story when Jose Mourinho cried for Marco Materazzi after winning a treble with Inter Milan
We all know Jose Mourinho as one of the coldest managers of all time. He rarely show his emotions in front of others, not to mention his cold replies that he give to his opponents.
However, Mourinho is still a human and there have been some moments when he actually cried for his team and its players. One of the incidents in which Jose Mourinho shed his tears is related to his departure from Italy.
On May 22, 2010, Mourinho’s Inter Milan defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 to win the Champions League and complete a historic treble (Serie A, Italian Cup, and Champions League).
Marco Materazzi was waiting by the team bus when Mourinho noticed him as he prepared to leave the stadium in a private vehicle. Quickly getting out of the car, the Portuguese walked up to the defender and gave him an embrace.
‘Marco was the symbol of all our sadness,’ Mourinho told La Gazzetta dello Sport. ‘I wanted to go to Real. They had tried to get me the year before and when I was at Chelsea – you can’t say no three times to Real Madrid. I wanted to be the first to win league titles in England, Italy and Spain.’
They conversed, and when Mourinho turned around, Marco was in tears. Both guys seem to be aware that a certain era was coming to an end. Mourinho took over as Real Madrid’s head coach six days later.
‘The Special One’ won eight more championships during his later tenures with Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United, but he never quite matched the success he enjoyed with that Inter team, which peaked precisely ten years ago.
