Mason Greenwood has been supported by Getafe manager Jose Bordalas in the wake of the Jude Bellingham “slur” accusation.
On Thursday night, the two faced off in a La Liga match between Getafe and Real Madrid. Madrid reclaimed first place in the La Liga standings, two points ahead of Girona, thanks to a brace from striker Joselu.
But an incident involving Bellingham and Greenwood soured the game.
After Bellingham had tackled Greenwood, there appears to have been an incident during the second half of the game. Video of the purported event surfaced on social media.
It was announced on Friday that Bellingham will be the subject of an investigation by La Liga about an alleged insult directed at Greenwood.
A statement read: “Getafe yesterday transferred the complaint to the La Liga match director and La Liga, as it always does on these occasions, has requested an expert report on lip reading to investigate the matter and act on the basis of what can be proven beyond doubt (by the lip reader).”
Bordalas, the Getafe manager, has now supported Greenwood.
In his news conference prior to the game, he stated, “I know the same thing that you know. It’s not up to me, it’s the club, La Liga and the Federation that have to make an assessment about it.
“The only thing that I can say is that I ask for respect from Mason Greenwood because he is a great guy.”
Bordalas added: “He is a man who respects everyone and has exemplary behaviour.”
Greenwood has made 21 appearances in all competitions since joining the Spanish team, contributing four assists and six goals. The Englishman Greenwood has been connected to another La Liga team while he is in Spain.
As previously mentioned, when the 22-year-old forward’s loan with Getafe expires at the end of the 23–24 season, Barcelona is reportedly interested in signing him.
