Vinicius Junior, a gifted striker for Real Madrid, will not play for Brazil in the Copa America 2024 quarterfinals.
In the final game of Group D of the Copa America 2024, Brazil faced Colombia to determine who would advance to the finals. They qualified in second place with a 1-1 tie.
Seven minutes into the game, the 23-year-old former Flamengo attacker was shown his second yellow card of the competition. As a result, he will be unable to play in the following quarterfinal encounter.
Ten minutes before the game ended in the second Copa America 2024 group stage encounter with Paraguay, Vinicius was given his first yellow card. A player is suspended for one match if they receive two yellow cards, as per the tournament rules. Vinicius will thus be unable to play in Brazil’s upcoming match.
The team led by Dorival Junior finished second in their group with five points following the recent draw between Brazil and Colombia. They will play Uruguay in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
