UEFA to introduce ‘Super Bowl’ format to Champions League from 2024
UEFA are reportedly working on to change the Champions League format from 2024. The concept is to introduce ‘Super Bowl’ format to the league.
Last season’s Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals were turned into single-leg ties due to COVID-19. Both the matches were held behind the closed doors.
According to the New York times, Champions League will be called ‘Champions Week,’ as a proposed change by UEFA.
This means that both the semi-final and final will be played in the same week. Although the final would be held in its traditional Saturday night slot, UEFA would organize extravaganza of events throughout the week.
This further means that there will be a series of events throughout the so called ‘Champions Week’. It will include matches, concerts and other entertaining events to keep
According to the newspaper, UEFA is considering these changes to be serious but it has not been announced officially.
UEFA is concerned about a potential loss in TV revenue if the two-leg semi-final matches were scrapped.
However, the organizers expects that a single semi-final leg would attract a large enough audience to help ease any financial impact from dropping the two-leg format.
