Manchester United legend David de Gea is still a free agent following his release from Old Trafford this year, but he could soon have a new club with a stunning move on the table.

The 33-year-old custodian left United earlier this year after his contract with Erik ten Hag expired. It ended a 12-year stint at Old Trafford that began in 2011 when renowned former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson bought the custodian from Atletico Madrid.

De Gea went on to make approximately 550 appearances during that period, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and two League Cups.

De Gea left United after Ten Hag decided to part ways with the long-serving custodian, with the Dutchman instead signing Inter Milan’s Andre Onana as his new number-one stopper.

De Gea has been a free agent and without a club since his release from Old Trafford at the end of June. As a free agent, the custodian can join another team at any time and does not need to wait until the January transfer window to do so.

And it appears like De Gea may have a new club lined up, but it may be a little difficult one.

According to The Sun, Al Ettifaq is leading the pursuit for De Gea’s signature, which may be an unpleasant move given who is at the Saudi club.

Steven Gerrard, a Liverpool icon, currently manages Al Ettifaq after taking over in early July.

One of Gerrard’s first acquisitions as manager was former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, which means De Gea may end up being managed by and playing alongside two former Liverpool captains against whom he battled in one of England’s most heated rivalries.

It is, however, not the only option open to the former Spain international. He has also been connected with a return to Spain, with the player apparently in negotiations with Eldense of the Spanish second level.
