Rube Dias (Full Name – Rúben dos Santos Gato Alves Dias) is a Portuguese defender born on 14 May, 1997 in Amadora, Portugal. His father’s name is Joao Dias and his mother whose identity is unknown. He has an elder brother Ivan Dias and two sisters Beatrix Dias and Carolina Dias.
Childhood
Dias began his career at club Estrela da Amadora in 2008. He played for junior side till 2015. In 2015, he joined Benfica reserved team after playing for Junior side.
He started at Benfica’s academy as a striker and gradually moved first to the midfield and then to the defense line.
In 2016, when Dias was 18, he was called up to Benfica senior side. He made his professional debut in a Primera Liga game against Boavista. He featured for Benfica in two UEFA Champions League matches against Manchester United.
Ruben scored his first ever goal for Benfica in Primera Liga against Rio Ave. He was voted Primeira Liga’s best young player of the season. He signed a new contract which would keep him at the club till 2022.
In November 2019, Dias played his 100th game for Benfica against Rio Ave. He played his alst game for Benfica against Moreirense. Overall, Dias played 137 games for Benfica, during which he scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists.
In 2020, Dias has signed a 6 year contract with Manchester City. He made his Premier League debut against Leeds United. After multiple great performances, he became the first choice center back for Pep Guardiola.
Ruben was first called up to Portugal U16 side in 2012. He was then called up for U17 team, where he played 18 games throughout 2013. He also played for Portugal U19 team in 2014 and 15 games for the U20 side in 2015.
Dias captained the U 19 at the 2016 European Championships and the under-20s at the 2017 World Cup. He made his debut for Portugal U21 side on the 5th of September 2017.
In May 2018, he was called up to the senior side. made his international debut for Portugal senior side in a friendly against Tunisia.
He was included in Portugal’s final squad for the 2018 World Cup, but did not feature in any of his country’s four matches in the competition. Ruben Dias has played 22 games for Portugal and is yet to score his first goal.
