We all know how Lionel Messi celebrates his goal. He simply points the forefingers of both of his hand towards the sky while looking above. But do you that the reason behind this iconic celebration?
Messi was four when his grandmother discovered the makings of a football star in him. She was the only one in his family at that time who wanted his grandson to become a footballer. She took Messi to his first football training session and goaded him with the words: “Lionel, one day, you will be the best football player in the world.”
Leo’s grandmother has played huge role in his career. She was the one who persuaded his parents to buy him his first pair of football boots and asked the coach of the local club to include him in their squad.

But at the age of 11, the Argentine legend lost his grandmother. Unfortunately she couldn’t see the rise of her grandson who went on becoming ‘one of the greatest ever of the game’.

When asked about his celebration, Messi said: “I am doing this because I dedicate my goals to my grandmother. She took me to football but now she can’t see how far I have come.”
Messi is now 35-years-old and is still producing wonders not to mention he won the 2021 Ballon dÓr which was also the 7th of his career, most by any player.
