More than 200 million people have watched the video of Cristiano Ronaldo declaring his intention to have dinner with longtime competitor and fierce opponent Lionel Messi.
Two years ago, when the Champions League draw took place in Monaco, two of the greatest football players of all time were seated next to each other.
The star of Manchester United, Ronaldo, made a joke about hoping to have dinner with Messi one day while leading Juventus’ attack.
“I was curious because we shared this stage for 15 years me and him,” Ronaldo said.
“I don’t know if that has ever happened in football, the same two guys on the stage at the same time, so it’s not easy.
“Of course we have a good relationship, we have not had dinner together yet but I hope in the future.”
When Messi and Ronaldo were seen in deep conversation in France in 2019, they had each won five Ballon d’Ors. The Argentine is now two games ahead of the Portuguese, having won his seventh trophy last month.
Ronaldo and Messi sat next to each other when they were nominated for the UEFA Player of the Season award, with eventual winner Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
The pair reconnected at the Best FIFA Men’s Player award ceremony on January 17, since both were on the 11-player shortlist.
