Guti Hernandez has urged for Real Madrid to re-sign Sergio Ramos. This sparked a debate about how the team should handle their defensive issue.
In order to strengthen their backline in the face of an escalating injury crisis, former Real Madrid player Guti Hernandez has recommended that the team look into re-signing Sergio Ramos, their former captain and center-back.
After Real Madrid suffered a significant blow when Eder Militao was sidelined for the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL during their most recent 4-0 victory against Osasuna, the proposition was made.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti is left with few defensive choices as a result of Militao’s injury, which further erodes a backline already beset by injuries.
The fact that David Alaba, another centre-back in the first squad, has not fully recovered from his own ACL injury from the previous season adds to Real Madrid’s defensive worries.
Because of this circumstance, Guti has argued in favour of Ramos’ return as a seasoned and trustworthy choice to support the defence. Ramos, a free agent at the moment, has battled with little playing time since his last stint with Sevilla.
But at this point, his expertise and leadership—especially at Real Madrid, where he won numerous league and Champions League titles—could be a vital asset to the team.
“Look at Ancelotti’s worried face. Militao is a very important player who had just recovered from last year’s injury, who was getting back to his best and who is leaving Madrid’s defence in a tight spot. He is joined by Carvajal’s injury. Alaba has had a very long injury,” Guti said.
“You have to go out on the market. Sergio Ramos is without a team. Right back and centre back. In this situation, I clearly see him, at zero cost. He comes from playing last year in Sevilla and doing well. A man who has been in the team, who was active last year. Who continues to take care of himself and who can offer those six months,” Guti said
Will Ramos return to Real Madrid?
However, Ramos’ return might be difficult because Ancelotti has stated that he plans to use Real Madrid’s development program to fill the void until the January transfer window opens.
This strategy might allow young players to be on the pitch, enabling Ancelotti to evaluate his alternatives in-house before the team contemplates entering the transfer market or making a risky move for a free agent like Ramos.
Despite the allure of Ramos returning to the Santiago Bernabeu, performance and practical considerations might make it less likely. His effect on the pitch may be hampered by his recent injuries and sparse playing time with Sevilla.

Guti’s call, however, emphasises how serious the defensive situation is and how urgently Real Madrid needs reinforcements to keep up their momentum in La Liga and Europe.
Ancelotti’s team will probably require both intelligent squad management and quick action in the transfer market to handle a difficult season ahead, regardless of whether Ramos is part of the answer.
