Real Madrid has made contact with former Manchester Untied goalkeeper David De Gea
In light of Thibaut Courtois’ ACL injury, Real Madrid are looking into goalkeeping possibilities, and contact has been made with David De Gea‘s representatives.
Following his departure from Manchester United this summer, De Gea is now a free agent.
Real Madrid are also keeping an eye on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s situation. The Chelsea goalkeeper is Bayern Munich’s top target in goal, with a loan-to-buy agreement being pursued.
Courtois suffered an anterior cruciate ligament damage to his left knee during training and will have surgery in the following days.
Although the 31-year-old has been a nearly constant in the Spanish capital since joining from Chelsea in August 2018, De Gea might serve as a long-term replacement.
After 12 seasons and 545 appearances—the most by any goalie in club history—De Gea left United in July.
Last season, the Spaniard beat Peter Schmeichel’s United record for clean sheets, finishing with a total of 190 shutouts in all competitions.
During his tenure in Manchester, the 32-year-old won five major titles, including the Premier League in 2013 and the Europa League in 2017.
Erik Ten Hag Praises David De Gea
After joining from Ajax last summer, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag kept De Gea as his No. 1 goalkeeper, with the goalie receiving the Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season.
Ten Hag noted at the time of De Gea’s departure: “It takes great quality and character to even play one game for Manchester United.”

“To do it 545 times over 12 years is a special achievement, particularly in the goalkeeping position where every game puts you in the spotlight.
“To have won Player of the Year awards from both the fans and his team-mates, each on four occasions, shows the level of his performance and he will always be remembered as one of the very best goalkeepers in the history of the club.
“I am personally grateful for the 25 clean sheets he helped provide last season and his overall contribution on the pitch during my first year at the club.
“All the players and staff send him our very best wishes for the next phase of his outstanding career.”
Ten Hag has subsequently replaced De Gea with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.
