Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr. and Eduardo Camavinga are out of the playing XI due to long-term injuries.
Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid was pushed off the pitch in the first half of Brazil’s 2-1 loss to Colombia in World Cup qualifiers on Thursday night.
After a run, the 23-year-old, who had started on the left side, felt a strong discomfort in his right hamstring and communicated to the bench that he couldn’t continue.
After the game, Vinicius Junior informed reporters that he thought he had suffered the same injury that had kept him out for a month earlier this season.
“I think it’s the same injury as last time. I took a hit there and it hurt a little later,” Vinicius said. “Tomorrow we will do tests to see how I go,”
Due to a hamstring strain, the Real Madrid star missed four games in August and September, including the first Madrid derby of the season. He returned to duty in late September, scoring three goals in his last four games for his team.
The injury to Vinicius Junior is a setback for both Brazil and Real Madrid, who are hoping to have him back as soon as possible.
Colombia defeated Brazil, scoring twice through Luis Diaz in an emotional triumph. Diaz’s father had been kidnapped and released earlier this week and was watching his son’s heroics from the stands.
Brazil fell to fifth in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifier standings as a result of the defeat.
Colombia climbed up to third place with 9 points, one point behind Uruguay’s Fede Valverde, who defeated Argentina yesterday night. On Tuesday, Brazil will meet Argentina in a high-profile match, while Colombia will go to Paraguay.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is preparing for their next La Liga match against Cadiz on the 26th. The Spanish powerhouses sit second in the table, two points behind Girona.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will be hopeful that Vinicius Junior’s injury is minor and that he will be able to heal in time for the hectic schedule that lies ahead.
Vinicius Junior will undergo more tests on Friday to establish the degree of his injuries and the time he will need to recover. He will join a long list of injured Real Madrid players, including:
- Eder Militao
- Thibaut Courtois
- Kepa Arrizabalaga
- Arda Güler
- Jude Bellingham
- Aurelien Tchouameni
- Eduardo Camavinga
- Dani Ceballos
These all players should return after the international break. Ancelotti will have to rely on the depth of his squad and hope that his players can stay fit and healthy for the rest of the season.
