Jamshedpur FC has parted ways with Petar Sliskovic after an agreement between both parties
Petar Sliskovic has left Jamshedpur FC after the two sides agreed to split ways less than a month into the 2023-24 Indian Super League season.
The Croat, who had an excellent season with Chennaiyin FC (2022-23), signed a one-year contract with the one-time League Shield holders this summer, but it has ended with zero appearances for the team.
According to Sportskeeda, the 32-year-old would miss the entire current Indian Super League (ISL) season owing to a knee injury sustained during the pre-season.
The team appears to have waited for his successor before releasing him from the JRD Tata Sports Complex. They added Nongdamba Naorem Singh and Thongkhoseium Haokip to their roster.
Before Jamshedpur FC’s 1-0 loss to Kerala Blasters on October 1, manager Scott Cooper acknowledged Sliskovic’s long-term injury and the club’s quest for a successor.
“Everybody knew about our Croatian striker who left with a long-term knee injury. But you can expect some news, on the replacement of that coming soon. So, we haven’t sat back and been, you know, non-active. We’ve gone out into the market and looked for someone else and we found somebody.” said Cooper in a press conference (via fcjamshedpur.com).
Despite the loss of Petar Sliskovic, the Red Miners have an accomplished striker in Daniel Chima Chukwu. Ritwik Das, who scored six goals in 16 games last season, is out with a knee injury. The winger is likely to return to the squad for the club’s October 22 home encounter against Punjab FC.
Simon Cooper and company have started the season well, with four points from three games. This is a significant improvement over their previous disastrous season under Aidy Boothroyd when they stagnated and finished 10th in the league stage.
