Pep Guardiola startled reporters by making an unexpected revelation about this Premier League season.

This season, City hopes to win five Premier League titles under the Spaniard, making history as the first side to do it in the top level of England.

On Sunday afternoon, they play their opening match of the new season at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

City has already begun the season with a victory in the Community Shield, but they will probably have a tough test from Arsenal again if they hope to win the title again.

The next season may be Guardiola’s last chance to add additional trophies to his English football resume because he has not yet committed to staying with City once his present contract expires at the end of this one.

His remarks to the media before the Chelsea match, however, have startled many.

Pep Guardiola’s thoughts on the new season

When asked about the Premier League title race and whether he could win an unprecedented fifth consecutive crown, Guardiola responded: “Now? Motivation to win another Premier League is not there. For me, it is not there.”

The Spaniard, however, did explain his thinking behind the comment, adding: “It will be in the last month.”

“We have to look at ourselves,” he said. “What we can do better. Always we can improve, the desire to individually be better.
