Lionel Messi has shared a funny story about his son
Lionel Messi has a devoted following all across the world, from Argentina to Barcelona and beyond. One would imagine that the recent World Cup-winning captain would have unfettered support from his family. Not so much when it comes to his second son, Mateo.
Mateo has recently ruffled his feathers, according to the 36-year-old.
“When Mateo plays with me in the backyard, he goes “I’m Liverpool and Valencia because they beat you!” Messi told TyC Sports.
But that’s not all; the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid isn’t regarded as a sacrosanct line that must not be crossed. “At home when Thiago and Mateo are watching football together, Mateo will celebrate Real Madrid goals to piss off his bro.”
Messi is currently a member of Argentina’s national squad, which will face Bolivia on Tuesday in La Paz, which is approximately 3000 feet above sea level.
The Argentine, who recently joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain, has been in phenomenal form recently, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Ecuador. He was, however, replaced near the end of the game due to a probable injury scare.
“Leo was tired the other day and asked to be substituted,” Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni explained afterwards. “But it’s not needed that we speak to him before matches. We’ll see as it goes.”
