Kylian Mbappe’s long-term future at Paris Saint-Germain will be decided in the next six months, with the France international set to join Real Madrid in July.
Kylian Mbappe is expected to reject offers from PSG and Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, in order to complete a “dream” move to Real Madrid.
Mbappe, 25, will be out of contract in June and has various choices. PSG will try to persuade him to sign a new contract at the eleventh hour, as they did in May 2022, while Liverpool and others will give him a chance to play in the Premier League.
Nonetheless, Madrid is in pole position to eventually entice the World Cup champion to the Spanish capital. According to reports in France, Mbappe has agreed to join the 14-time European champions on a free transfer, foregoing a £69 million loyalty incentive at PSG.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Madrid has not yet secured their man. Mbappe’s wage is said to be a sticking point, since he presently makes €25 million per year net (£21.5 million). Madrid’s current highest-paid players earn roughly €10 million per year net (£8.6 million).
The Spanish giants are unwilling to match Mbappe’s Parisian pay and are attempting to sweeten the deal. Because there would be no transfer fee, they may award him a signing-on incentive of up to €100 million (£86 million). A provision for winning the Ballon d’Or could be inserted as well.
Whatever decision Mbappe makes, an official statement on his future could take some time. However, signing the France international will be a significant coup for Madrid, after he rejected them in May 2022 to stay at the Parc des Princes for another two years. Having said that, there is still a possibility that he will join Liverpool.
What Did Florentino Perez Say About Mbappe?
However, speaking immediately after Mbappe signed with PSG, Madrid president Florentino Perez said it was the player’s “dream” to join his club and expressed confidence that a deal would be reached. “Mbappe did not betray me,” Perez told El Chiringuito.
“Mbappe told us his dream was to play for Real Madrid, many and many times. But then all changed in 15 days because of political and economical pressure.”
Perez feels French President Emmanuel Macron impacted Mbappe’s choice after France was defeated by Argentina in the World Cup final in Qatar. He also believes that Qatar, which owns PSG, made Mbappe an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Perez added: “His dream had to change. Macron called Mbappe, it makes no sense. PSG offered him to be the leader of the project, it changed everything. I didn’t see the same Kylian Mbappe that we wanted. Here, no one is bigger than Real Madrid. It won’t change.
“It was not easy for Mbappe to receive calls from the president of France… to tell you not to leave the club. Then go to Qatar and they offer things that drive you crazy, probably things out of proportion. This is why Kylian has changed.
“I think Kylian Mbappe’s mom wanted him to join Real Madrid, she knows it has always been Kylian’s dream. I’m sure she wanted Mbappe to join us, but things change and we have to respect. I still respect Kylian, absolutely.”
Mbappe has previously rejected any role of Macron in his career. “What influence does the President have? On my career today, in 2023, none. He wants me to stay in Paris, my objective is to stay. We’re on the same wavelength.”
