Lamine Yamal has really been dominating Kylian Mbappe since his debut.
When Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2 in the Copa del Rey final, Lamine Yamal was once again one of their best players. It is evident that the young Barcelona star has prevailed in the straight matches between him and Kylian Mbappe, the most intriguing player from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Yamal appears to have fully taken over Mbappe’s mind, winning both the mental and physical fights on the pitch. The Barcelona player has emerged triumphant in each of the last four encounters between Lamine and Mbappe.
Additionally, in those games, he has been more decisive for his club, stepping up when it counts most.
One-Sided Dominance
There have been six official meetings between Yamal and Mbappe thus far. Yamal has been on the winning side five times out of those.
Mbappe was still with Paris Saint-Germain at the time of the first two confrontations. PSG won their quarterfinal encounter in the 2023–24 Champions League on aggregate, but Barça prevailed 3-2 in the first leg, in which Yamal played well.
Mbappe only experienced triumph over Yamal once, during the second leg at Montjuic, where he scored twice as PSG won 4-1. Yamal contributed to Barcelona’s lone goal even at that point by helping Raphinha score.
Spain defeated France 2-1 in July 2024, their lone international encounter, despite falling down early. In yet another pivotal moment against Mbappe, the Barcelona star gave Spain the equaliser.

The rivalry has since fully changed in Barcelona’s favour. With a 4-0 victory in La Liga, a resounding success in the Spanish Super Cup, and now an exciting victory in the Copa del Rey final, Barça has dominated the Clásicos under Hansi Flick.
Mbappe’s goal in the most recent final was insufficient to prevent Barcelona and Yamal from winning the title once more.
