Kylian Mbappe has agreed to join Chelsea but only on a one-year contract deal
Despite being ‘unhappy with his circumstances’ in France, PSG starlet Kylian Mbappe is reportedly unwilling to join Chelsea for more than a single season.
This summer, Mbappe has created quite a stir. He has repeatedly clashed with PSG’s administration in recent years, and he has now said unequivocally that he would not sign a contract that extends his time at the Ligue One club beyond 2024.
The World Cup winner was reportedly courted by Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal earlier this summer, but he turned down a move to the Middle East.
The Saudi club wanted to capture Mbappe in an unusual arrangement that would have seen him spend one season in the Middle East before joining Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024.
Mbappe has recently been extensively linked with a move to the Premier League. Over the weekend, it was rumoured that Liverpool had made a sensational loan offer for the forward.
Jurgen Klopp, the Reds’ manager, has since played down their chances of signing Mbappe.
“We laugh about it,” Klopp told Sky Germany.
“I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.”
Mbappe Stated This Condition Over Joining Chelsea
Given their financial resources, Chelsea may be more likely than Liverpool to sign Mbappe.
However, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Mbappe refused to move to Chelsea for more than one season after open conversations between the English club and the Parisian to formalize a prospective transfer’.

Mbappe has been placed up for sale by PSG for around 250 million euros. Chelsea also promised to make an offer.
Mbappe would only be willing to go on loan or move for one year, but he doesn’t rule out holding out for a free transfer in 2024.
A one-year loan is a solution to the whole situation, with PSG needing to let him go to be able to recruit multiple players without violating Financial Fair Play requirements. Chelsea are ‘open to talking’ about loaning Mbappe out, but PSG are starting to lose patience.
At this point, it appears like a move to Real Madrid is Mbappe’s most realistic long-term aim by the time the summer transfer market opens in 2024.
Real Madrid will be aware that they are in a strong position and will not be drawn into the Mbappe story this summer. They believe it is ‘outrageous’ to spend 250 million euros for a player with a year left on his contract when they could sign a pre-contract agreement with the Frenchman as early as January if he stays at PSG.
