According to rumours in Germany, Manchester United have put PSV winger Johan Bakayoko on their shortlist for the January transfer window.
Erik ten Hag is eager to bolster his offensive options in the coming window, and a new striker is thought to be one of United’s top priorities.
According to Sport1, United are also trying to bolster Ten Hag’s options across all attacking areas, and Bakayoko’s blistering displays for PSV are being keenly watched.
With four goals and 13 assists so far this season, the 20-year-old has been one of PSV’s top performers. Last summer, Bakayoko sparked extensive attention, and Brentford came close to matching PSV’s £38.5 million asking price for the winger.
Johan Bakayoko shone in the Champions League against Arsenal (EPA). However, the Belgium international turned down the opportunity to join Brentford because he desired to play in the Champions League.
Bakayoko, who has also been linked with Liverpool, has performed admirably in the Champions League this season, including a standout effort in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal two weeks ago.
PSV head coach Peter Bosz stated earlier this month that he expects Bakayoko to eventually join a prominent European team.
“I think so – and we have more. In the end, Johan said he wanted to stay and he was right,” Bosz told The Athletic.
“This is his first year as a starting player, and the most difficult part is consistency. Johan was fantastic against Arsenal but I want him to be fantastic every weekend.”
