Andre Onana should “move on” from Manchester United if “things don’t change” before the end of the 2024–2025 Premier League season, according to a former goalie.
According to BBC Sport, the 28-year-old Onana paid £47.2 million to join United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.
He has displayed flashes of genius since taking over as the team’s number one under Erik ten Hag, but he has also faced criticism for a number of errors, notably giving up a goal straight off Matheus Cunha’s corner during Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Wolves on the road.
24 Goals in 18 Premier League matches
He has given up 24 goals in his 18 Premier League games this season, but occasionally his colleagues’ poor defensive performances have hurt his cause. He might, however, be a “better fit” in another European league, according to a former United player.
The 54-year-old Massimo Taibi was a member of the Red Devils from 1999 to 2000. However, he made a mistake against Liverpool on his debut and then dropped another clumsy performance against Southampton in September 1999, thus his tenure at United did not proceed as anticipated.
Before retiring in 2009, he played for Atalanta, Torino, and Ascoli after leaving for the Italian team Reggina in 2000. He has now shared his opinions on Onana’s predicament.

Of course, it’s unknown if Onana would be open to leaving Old Trafford after only one and a half seasons. June 2028 is when the ‘keeper’s current United contract expires. But according to the Daily Star, the “search for a top keeper is already underway.”
According to the newspaper, Brighton’s 22-year-old Bart Verbruggen is the team’s “favourite” and may fetch about £30 million given that his contract is slated to expire in three more years. Ruben Amorim will have to stay at Onana for the time being, though, as any possible transfer is unlikely to be finalized in the January window.
