When questioned about whether Michael Jordan is the real GOAT ahead of him, Lionel Messi made it very plain how he felt.
After creating a great career for himself, the Argentinean, who won the World Cup in 2022 with his national team, has earned a record eight Ballon d’Or trophies.
On the other side, “MJ” transcended the game of basketball during his illustrious time with the Chicago Bulls, winning an astounding six NBA titles.
Who, though, between Messi and Jordan, is the all-time great? The basketball icon, in the opinion of the Barcelona legend, is the real GOAT.
Speaking to Argentine journalist Juan Pablo Varsky on an episode of the Clank! podcast, Messi said: “It seems to me, in terms of sports, he’s the greatest there is (…) But after having seen his series and getting to know a bit more about him, you know, ‘The Last Dance’, it just blows your mind, it’s a masterpiece, it’s impressive.”

He added: “Well, that also brought me closer to him and to understand a bit more about who he was. It’s a pity that I couldn’t live through that era in person, because I would’ve loved it.”
Jordan is the only sportsman that Messi wishes to have a picture taken with, he disclosed in a different interview.
“From the sports world, I would like to have a photo with [Michael] Jordan – meet him and have a photo with him,” he revealed.
