The Argentine sensation is getting closer to Gonzalo Higuaín’s scoring total and is on course to become Inter Miami’s all-time best scorer.
It seems only a matter of time until Lionel Messi’s name appears innumerable times in Inter Miami’s record books.
With Gonzalo el “Pipita” Higuaín leading the team in goals scored all time, the Argentine star closes the gap with his goal for the Herons against Nashville in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Messi has scored four goals in Inter Miami’s four official games this season. In all, he has scored 15 goals in 18 games while wearing a pink jersey across all competitions as he looks to match Higuain’s 29 goals for the Florida-based team.
With 11 goals, Messi was sixth in Inter Miami’s all-time scoring rankings before the 2024 season began, behind Venezuelan Josef Martínez, who had 12 goals. Messi is an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
After just four games in the new season, Messi has already risen to third position among the franchise’s highest scorers since its inception in 2020.
The striker’s 15 goals for Miami are a result of his Concacaf Champions Cup goals against LA Galaxy, Orlando City, and Nashville.
Messi’s next objective is to reach 20 goals, and he has games against Montreal, Nashville (CCL), and DC United coming up soon. Lionel Messi now trails only retired Gonzalo Higuaín and Ecuadorian marksman Leonardo Campana.
With 70 games played, Higuaín has 29 goals, while Campana has 23 in 68. But with Suárez’s arrival, the Ecuadorian has fallen down the striking pecking order as a result of his recent injury struggles.
