When asked if he would be willing to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo on the same squad, Lionel Messi made it obvious what kind of player he was.
When the two played for Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga, respectively, they faced off against one other, and it is when their notorious rivalry peaked.
Messi did, however, mention at the time that he could see himself and the legendary player from Portugal playing together in the future.
In response to a question in 2015 regarding his willingness to play with Ronaldo, Messi replied, “Yes, of course.
“I always like to play with the best, and he is one of them. I think it will be difficult for us to play in the same team, but obviously I would like to.
“I was lucky enough to play and participate with many very good players and, obviously, I would also like to do it with him.”
Will Messi and Ronaldo play in the same team?
Given that Ronaldo, at 39, plays football for Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League, it seems improbable that the two will play for the same team at this time.
Messi is currently playing with Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and other former Barcelona teammates at David Beckham’s MLS team Inter Miami.
The 37-year-old, who won the Copa America with Argentina this summer, was left off of the 30-man-long list of nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Actually, this year marks the first time since 2003 that neither Messi nor Ronaldo have been nominated for the Ballon d’Or, which raises the possibility that their combined domination of football may be coming to an end.
Instead, Englishman Jude Bellingham and Manchester City’s Rodri are the favourites to win, ahead of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.
Other noteworthy absences from this year’s candidates include Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool and Kevin De Bruyne, the charmer for Manchester City.
