Robert Lewandowski equals Gerd Muller’s 40 season goals record
On Saturday, Bayern Munich played a 2-2 draw with SC Freiburg. However, the draw wouldn’t affect Bayern because they are already declared as Bundesliga champions for the 9th time in a row.
Lewandowski scored the first goal of the game and his 40th goal of the season to equalize Gerd Muller’s record. But he actually reached the 40 mark in six fewer games than Muller, which is a remarkable effort.
The Poland international celebrated his goal in a beautiful way. He gave a tribute to Gerd Muller’s legacy. In return, he was also given the tribute for his achievement.
Gerd first achieved his 40 goals record feat in 1971/72 season. Now after 51 years, the 32 year old repeated the history.
After converting the penalty, he showed his inner where the word “4EVER GERD” was printed. It was a beautiful gesture shown by ‘The Machine‘.
Lewandowski is the top scorer of 2020/21 season and is favorite to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or this year. RL9 would have got his first Golden Ball, but the ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19.
