When asked about football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe provided an intriguing response.
Mbappe appears in Netflix’s new six-episode docuseries, which provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at the Qatar World Cup in 2022. It also includes comments from England captain Harry Kane, former Wales international Gareth Bale, and Danish coach Simon Kjaer.
During the interview, the PSG forward was asked about Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup triumph last year, and Ronaldo.
Messi and Cristiano are better players than me
In an unusual twist, he stated that Messi and Ronaldo are better players than him, but he convinces himself that he is the best.
“Messi and Cristiano are better players than me, but I always tell myself that I’m the best,” Mbappe said to X account @ManagingBarca.
Mbappe has yet to match Messi’s and Ronaldo’s achievements, having won individual and team trophies with both club and country.
They have a total of 13 Ballon d’Ors and have won league crowns in England, Spain, France, and Italy, as well as the Champions League and international trophies.
Mbappe, on the other hand, has helped France attain international success following their World Cup victory in 2018. It’s not the first time the 25-year-old wonder has spoken out about the two superstars.
Earlier this year, he was questioned if he and Manchester City goal-machine Erling Haaland could form a rivalry similar to Messi vs. Ronaldo.
“Things should be read differently. It happens perhaps every fifty years or more to have two players like Messi and Ronaldo at such levels for so long,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We lived through an exceptional era and I hope the fans took advantage of it. I was lucky enough to play against Cristiano and then against and together with Leo: they are truly special. I learned a lot from them, especially with Messi in these two seasons.
“They wrote the history of football: they are eternal.”
