After Kylian Mbappe scored his first two goals for Real Madrid in La Liga, he responded to a question about Cristiano Ronaldo with the coldest tone.
Mbappe scored a brace against Real Betis on Sunday to score his first league goals for Real after his sensational free move from Paris Saint-Germain.
After an underwhelming league debut, he had failed to score in his new team’s first three league games, raising fears among supporters.
In Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Betis, Mbappe scored with his left foot in the 67th minute and then converted a penalty nine minutes later.
He was also compared to former “Galactico” Ronaldo, who had a remarkably productive time at the club throughout his illustrious tenure, in remarks made following the outcome.
Although Ronaldo is his inspiration in sports, the 25-year-old dismissed the similarities to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“I don’t feel the pressure,” he said. “I don’t think about Cristiano, with all due respect to him. Cristiano is my idol, yes. But no, I don’t want to follow anything. I don’t want that pressure. I want to be Kylian. I only have the pressure of having to adapt to the team.”
On opening his goal account in Spain’s top flight, Mbappe added: “It was a great moment. I had been hoping to score in this legendary stadium, which I consider the best in the world. I feel great here. I’ve said it since I arrived, I’m happy. The fans and everyone at the club have shown me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring.

“For some players, three games without a goal might not seem like much, but for me, it felt like a lot. Still, the support from the club and the fans has been incredible. It gives me the confidence to give my all for this club and its badge.”
In five games across all competitions, Mbappe has scored three goals, including one in their triumph over Atalanta in the Super Cup last month.
