Despite ‘agreeing’ to a magnificent deal with Al Ittihad, Kevin De Bruyne is about to walk away from a massive contract.
Entering the last year of his Manchester City contract, De Bruyne has been connected to a spectacular move to Al Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League.
Before the new season began, his future was uncertain, but Pep Guardiola later declared that his star player wouldn’t be leaving the Etihad this summer.
After negotiations with Al Ittihad, Belgium had reached an agreement in principle to sign a three-year contract worth an incredible £156 million.
Thus, according to journalist Jeremy Cross, he would have made an absurd £1 million a week. However, the 33-year-old will play with the Blues for at least one more season.
In the end, though he and his wife had discussed moving to the Middle East, he was unwilling to uproot his children.
Speaking ahead of Man City’s pre-season game against Celtic, Guardiola said: “Kevin is not going.
“If someone leaves, we’re going to talk about that.
“Of course, until the last day, we have chances (to make transfers), I don’t rule out the option to have new players, but I think there is an 85/90 per cent chance we will have the same squad.
“I feel comfortable, because the quality of human beings we have in the squad is difficult to be replaced, and the quality is there.

“But we’ll see, I don’t know in the last moment if someone comes for some players and they leave, we’re going to decide.”
De Bruyne moved from Wolfsburg for £55 million, and he joined Man City in the summer of 2015. Throughout his 382 club appearances, he won them six Premier League championships.
In the 2022–2023 season, they won a triple, and he also won the Champions League.
