The other two sides that will compete in the three-nation Intercontinental Cup are Mauritius, ranked 179th, and Syria, ranked 93rd in the most recent FIFA rankings.
On Wednesday, Manolo Marquez, the head coach of the Indian men’s football team, released a list of 26 possible players for the country’s training camp in advance of the three-nation Intercontinental Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Hyderabad from September 3 to September 9 during the FIFA Window.
The other two sides in the competition are Mauritius, who are ranked 179th, and Syria, who are ranked 93rd in the most recent FIFA rankings. At the moment, India is ranked 124th. In Hyderabad, the preparatory camp will begin on August 31.
Announcing the players, Marquez, India’s new head coach said, “We are very excited about our first preparatory camp and I know it will be the same for the players.”
“We face two different teams and the rankings are not very important. We need to work all together in the same direction to find the correct group of players and their predisposition will be very good, something I am completely sure about,” he said.
“I know all of us are in pre-season with nice challenges in front of us. Is a big honour to wear the jersey of the national team and we need to show it to all our fans,” Marquez added.
Since the competition’s first year, which took place in Mumbai in 2018, there will be four Intercontinental Cups.
The other two iterations took place in Bhubaneshwar (2023) and Ahmedabad (2019). India won the championship in both 2023 and 2018.
