Five players who could replace Raphael Varane at Man Utd

During his first transfer window in charge of Manchester United, one of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's first tasks will be to locate a successor for Raphael Varane.

Varane will leave Old Trafford this summer for fresh pastures, United said ahead of the final round of 2023–24 fixtures. Varane has spent three years with the club.

Although the Frenchman’s time in Manchester didn’t exactly go as planned and he was unable to repeat the great success he had with Real Madrid, United cannot afford to lose time speculating about what went wrong.

Even before then news of Varane’s departure spread, the Red Devils were expected to look for a new center-back. They are prepared for their third summer reconstruction in as many years.

It remains to be seen how many defenders follow Varane out the escape door. The futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the team have long been in doubt, while Jonny Evans’ contract is up this summer. For a budding athlete like Willy Kambwala, a loan arrangement might be the wisest course of action.

Naturally, Ratcliffe and INEOS, who are prepared to make a big impression in their first transfer window in charge, feel that adding at least one new center-back is crucial.

These are five potential summer transfer targets for United.

Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo is someone United has long admired from a distance, but they are also aware of the deal’s biggest obstacle: how much does he really want to join?

Barcelona has publicly praised Araujo profusely, but given their obvious financial problems, they may be inclined to let go of the Uruguayan international, who at 25 is still one of the team’s most prized players.

Jonathan Tah

Having spent nine years at Bayer Leverkusen, Jonathan Tah may consider this summer to be his final season with Xabi Alonso’s team. Tah was a key component of the team’s success in the Bundesliga this season.

The 28-year-old, who recently finished an incredible season, may be available for a steal for approximately £17 million, as he approaches the last 12 months of his contract. Reports suggest that he has a release clause.

Antonio Silva

Antonio Silva, a 20-year-old center-back for Benfica, is valued highly since many believe he is one of the best young defenders in the world.

Benfica has been citing the £86 million release clause in the young player’s contract to potential suitors because they do not want to lose him.

In order to finance the transaction, United would have to sell players, but they may try to work out an agreement with Benfica that would allow them to spread the cost over several years.

According to reports, the Portuguese team would even be open to doing business for about £70 million.

Tosin Adarabioyo

This summer, United has access to many more dazzling names, but few could be as useful to the Red Devils as Tosin Adarabioyo.

Tosin is a free agent who will be leaving Fulham, but what you receive from him is a Premier League winning record.

Having made 200 appearances altogether in his senior career, including nearly 100 in England’s top division, he would not require any time to become used to the Premier League’s operating system.

Leny Yoro

According to reports, Lille wants to sell Yoro for about £100 million, but with the possibility of losing the teenager for nothing next year, that amount could probably be negotiated far lower.

Lille cannot afford to let Yoro walk because their entire business strategy depends on making one large transaction each year. There must be a sacrifice made.

Yoro might very well have a career similar to that of Varane, who signed with Real Madrid at the age of 18, and became unreachable for the following ten years as he developed into a superstar. For the next ten years, this might be United’s only opportunity to acquire him if they want him.
