Federico Chiesa has decided to join Liverpool after parting ways with Juventus.

The Italy international will cost the Reds £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million upfront that will be paid in add-ons mostly based on team performance.

Chiesa, 26, is on his way to Liverpool for a medical check-up, and should everything proceed as planned, he will be the first player signed by Arne Slot to arrive at the team.

Speaking outside of an airport on Wednesday, Chiesa declared that he was “ready for this new adventure” to the Italian network Sportitalia.

The attacker was a standout member of the Italy team that defeated England in the Euro 2020 championship game at Wembley on penalties.

In 131 appearances for Juventus, Chiesa scored 32 goals, including 10 in 37 games during the previous campaign.

But Thiago Motta, the recently hired Juventus manager, has kept him off of his first two matchday squads this year.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, a custodian for Georgia, will join Liverpool in the upcoming season after the club and Valencia agreed to a deal worth up to £29 million on Tuesday.

Why did Federico Chiesa leave Juventus?

Given that Chiesa only had a year left on his Juventus contract and that there are no indications of a new deal being signed anytime soon, prospective suitors would have anticipated signing him for a steep discount.

The amount of the price reduction, though, may surprise some fans. Liverpool has taken advantage of this market chance and is certain to land the electric wide winger.

A player of the level of the Italy international would often command a fee in a much higher division.

Italian football expert Stefano Buonfino explained why Chiesa is expected to leave Northern Italy for such a tiny amount of money in a post on Transfermarkt: “Chiesa hasn’t been able to play at his best at Juventus for different reasons.

“First of all, his bad injury [serious knee injury suffered in January 2022] was a major setback. And even when he got back, it affected him for many months. Chiesa didn’t seem to fully trust his body after the injury.
