Fede Valverde thinks his teammate Luka Modric is the best midfielder in the world, ahead of Kevin De Bruyne.

Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has declared Luka Modric the finest midfielder in the world right now.

Valverde has spent the last five years at the Santiago Bernabeu alongside Modric. During his time with the La Liga giants, the 38-year-old has become a Los Blancos icon.

Modric has made 497 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and contributing 77 assists. He has five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and was voted Ballon d’Or winner in 2018.

However, the Croatian hero struggled in 2023-24, falling out of Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI. He has started four of nine games across tournaments but has not scored or assisted.

Nonetheless, Valverde believes his Croatian teammate is the best midfielder in the world right now. When asked who the finest midfielder is now, he simply stated (via MadridXtra): “Modric”

Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur for €35 million in 2012. He took a while to adjust to life at the Bernabeu, but once he did, it was evident he’d become a Los Merengues legend.

After winning the Ballon d’Or, former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho lavished praise on the Croat. He stated (as reported by AS):

“When someone can make history in what they do they become immortal. Luka Modric has won the Ballon d’Or, he is beyond compare.”

It’s unclear what the future holds for the legendary Los Blancos midfielder. His contract with Real Madrid expires in June 2024, and it is possible that this is his final season at the Bernabeu.
