As a hidden clause in the Norwegian’s contract was disclosed, Real Madrid may turn to Erling Haaland as a potential Kylian Mbappe replacement.
It is no secret that Real Madrid is looking for their next Galactico, and Kylian Mbappe has been the most frequently suggested name.
For years, it seemed like the Frenchman was just a step away from joining the Spanish club, but contract issues prevented the transaction from being completed. Recent sources claim that Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid this summer, although nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City may be quite interesting to watch if Real Madrid’s pursuit of the PSG star falls through once more.
The present agreement between Haaland and City is said to have a £170 million release clause that will go into effect this summer and extend until 2027.
However according to Spanish publication AS, the release clause that would apply to international teams is much closer to the £85 million threshold, meaning that Haaland would be available for much less for teams like Real Madrid.
According to AS, Madrid may be tempted to make a double deal this summer and bring both Mbappe and Haaland to the Bernabeu because of the extremely low price tag.
Real Madrid has experience with large-scale transfer windows; in 2009, the team signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, and Karim Benzema during one such window.
The previous season, Haaland settled into Manchester City like a duck to water, winning the treble and setting a new Premier League scoring record on his debut.
If Real Madrid were to pursue the forward, his amazing accomplishment might actually work to their advantage because, in his one full season with the team, he has already taken home every title available to him save the Carabao Cup.

Rafaela Pimenta, the striker’s agent, is notably well-connected with Real Madrid. In November, when asked about his client’s future, Pimenta replied, “Will he sign for Madrid? You should ask in Madrid.”
This may be seen as Madrid having perfect control of the ball, with personal terms not being an issue for the Premier League’s current joint-top scorer.
As much as Pep Guardiola will not want to lose his talisman so soon, the reported release clause may completely remove Manchester City’s control.
