With their dominance of the European football charts, Liverpool has become a pioneering force in the English Premier League. The Reds have been winning a lot and are at the top of the Premier League standings thanks to players like Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson Becker, and Mohamed Salah.
The Premier League team has recently gained attention for an odd reason: it was revealed that Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, expressed interest in buying the football powerhouses.
Elon Musk is interested in buying Liverpool
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the CTO and executive chairman of social networking platform X, has shown interest in getting into the sports business by expressing a desire to purchase Liverpool FC, the Premier League’s top side.
In an interview with Times Radio, Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, admitted that the Tesla CEO had expressed interest in the six-time European Cup champions. The Premier League team has recently gained attention for an odd reason: it was revealed that Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, expressed interest in buying the football powerhouses.
“Oh yes, but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it. He would like to, yes. Obviously, anybody would want to. So would I,” he said.
“I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price,” Errol Musk also said.
Elon’s father continued by discussing Musk’s familial ties to the city of Liverpool, which may account for the reported interest. “We were fortunate enough to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with us — my family,” he said.
Liverpool owners respond to these rumours
Fenway Sports Group is the private owner of the Premier League franchise, having paid £300 million for it in 2010. A U.S. investment entity called Dynasty Equity purchased a minority share from FSG in September 2023. Notably, they have not expressed a desire to sell, despite welcoming outside investment.
When AP contacted FSG to get clarity, one of its representatives stated that there was “no truth to these rumours.”
Under FSG, Liverpool has regained its standing as one of the best clubs in Europe. The Merseyside squad won its first English league title in thirty years in 2020, one season after winning the Champions League.
In May last year, Forbes ranked Liverpool as the fourth most valuable club, with an estimated value of £4.3 billion. It is leading the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
