According to local media, Cristiano Ronaldo might face a punishment of ’99 lashes for adultery’ the next time he visits Iran due to a photo with a painter.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Iranian media indicate that a large number of attorneys in the nation have filed a lawsuit against the Al-Nassr star over a photograph taken during his September visit.
Ronaldo, who is dating Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, traveled to Tehran, Iran’s capital, with Al-Nassr to face Persepolis in the Asian Champions League group stage in September.
During his visit, the Portuguese international met Iranian painter Fatima Hamimi, who wanted to offer the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star a painting she created especially for him.
Ronaldo is claimed to have kissed her on the cheek and given her an autographed shirt, and he also posed for a photo in which he hugged her, which has enraged Iranian attorneys.
This is because, according to Iranian law, touching a married woman constitutes adultery. Hamimi is believed to be ‘85% paralyzed’ and is a huge fan of the Portuguese player.
Al-Nassr is in Group E of the Asian Champions League, alongside Iranian club Persepolis, Qatari side Al-Duhail, and Takikistan’s Istiklol.
He will not return to Iran during this stage of the competition, but if they make it to the knock-out rounds, it is not impossible that he will have to return to Iran.
According to reports, if he does so, officials in Iran may arrest him and force him to fulfill the sentence.
According to Marca, the punishment could be commuted if “the acts are not punishable or Ronaldo shows remorse.”
