Chelsea is giving serious thought to a trade with Real Madrid that might address their enduring goalkeeping issue.
A few names have been connected to the role as the Blues want to add a new goalkeeper ahead of their season starter against Manchester City.
The Spaniard fits Enzo Maresca’s playing style, thus Robert Sanchez should be his first choice at the beginning of the season, according to The Telegraph.
However, the team is still eager to have a second choice between the sticks. Interest can be shown in Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.
According to AS, Real Madrid goalie Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga could trade places at Stamford Bridge.
Kepa is prepared to accept a pay decrease to serve as Thibaut Courtois’ backup. He played the 2023–2024 season on loan with Los Blancos. Meanwhile, Lunin’s move to the Premier League this summer is something Chelsea is “very serious” about.
When asked for an update on Chelsea’s transfer plans after their clash against Wrexham on Wednesday, Maresca said: “When the transfer window is open, anything can happen for us and for the rest.”
Then they nudged him about their interest in Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen.
“We’ll see, we’ll see,” Maresca added. “In this moment we have four goalkeepers. Petrovic is still with us but injured. We will see with the timing.

“What I can say is Robert did very well tonight and did very well since we started. For sure, the way we want to play, the goalkeeper is very, very important – one of the main positions.
“And I don’t want to talk about players that are not Chelsea players but I am very happy with Robert.”
It was stated back in May that Chelsea was considering Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, as Maresca was searching for a goalie who could play out from the back.
