The 42 year old legendary goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon is older than his club’s manager Andrea Pirlo and still managed to make a record
Legends are not born great, they are made. Just like this, Gianluigi Buffon is such a great player from whom young players should take inspiration.
Buffon is the oldest goalkeeper in the world. He is 42 and will turn 43 next month (January) in 2021. With this, he broke the record of saving the most shots from Lionel Messi.
Messi took 7 shots in Tuesday’s group stage UCL match against Juventus. But Buffon managed to save all those seven shots from him. The 42 year old has a good flexibility still today and can save some corner shots easily. No doubt, Buffon is one of the greatest goalkeepers ever and sometimes considered as the greatest by some people.
Age doesn’t matter when you are passionate to perform – Gigi Buffon
Messi and Buffon are good friends. In between the match, Messi stretched Buffon’s jersey as a joke and asked him to exchange it by the end. So they exchanged their jerseys at the end of the match.
An interesting fact about them is that Messi has faced Buffon six times in his career and only managed to score in one of those games. This shows that Buffon has been very effective against Messi and this shows why Buffon is a legend.
