Bayern Munich are apparently interested in signing Ronald Araujo, a 24-year-old Barcelona regular.
According to renowned German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich is interested in Ronald Araujo. The Bundesliga champions have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old for the past two years.
The German club has already inquired about signing the Barcelona staple. However, a transfer is improbable because the Blaugrana are unwilling to sell the defender. Since joining Barcelona, Ronald Araujo has established himself as one of the top young defenders in the world.
The Uruguayan international arrived in Catalonia almost a decade ago, having been signed by the Blaugrana from Boston River. He took some time to break into the first-team squad, but he hasn’t looked back since making his debut.
In recent seasons, the 24-year-old has been a regular at the back for Barcelona. Araujo has played 124 times for the Catalan club, contributing eight goals and three assists.
Meanwhile, despite just having 16 international appearances, the player has established himself as a senior figure for his country.
Araujo’s improvement has not gone unnoticed, with other high-profile clubs interested in him. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United all already attempted to lure him away from Barcelona. Bayern Munich will be the latest club to pursue Ronald Araujo.
In the summer transfer window, Bayern Munich sought a center-back, and Kim Min-jae arrived from Napoli. However, Dayot Upamecano and Kim have been inconsistent this season.
Furthermore, Matthijs de Ligt’s future at Bayern Munich is unknown following recent statements by Thomas Tuchel.

As a result, Bayern Munich should invest in a long-term solution at center-back. Ronald Araujo is thus a feasible target, with Die Roten keeping track of his whereabouts during the last two years. The Bundesliga champions have also inquired about the Barcelona mainstay. However, a relocation is not in the cards.
In the following months, Barcelona will aim to sign the 24-year-old to a new contract. As a result, Bayern Munich must look elsewhere to strengthen its midfield.
However, other center-back targets such as Takehiro Tomiyasu and Raphael Varane may be out of reach. So it will be intriguing to watch who strengthens Bayern Munich’s defense next year.
