Jesse Lingard, a former Manchester United player, is apparently being offered a chance to sign with Barcelona.
At the conclusion of the 21–22 campaign, Lingard departed Old Trafford and ultimately joined Nottingham Forest.
Lingard played in all competitions with the Red Devils for a total of 232 games, scoring 35 goals, including the game-winning goal against Crystal Palace in the 2016 FA Cup final. When Lingard’s contract expired at the end of the 23/24 season, he left Forest.
The midfielder has since trained with West Ham United and Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq. Despite this, the 31-year-old remains without a club as the 23/24 season comes to a close.
The Englishman, however, is now being linked with a move to Spain. Barcelona has been offered the chance to sign Lingard on a free transfer, according to Spanish news outlet SPORT.
The bid to sign the former Manchester United player came after it was claimed that Barcelona manager Xavi is looking to add another midfielder to his team during the winter transfer window.
However, Barcelona may have to sign a player on a cheap or even free move due to the club’s continuous financial difficulties. Lingard, who will not incur any transfer fees for Barcelona, has therefore been made available to the Catalan team.
Barcelona is presently seven points behind Real Madrid and Girona in the La Liga standings. Speaking last month ahead of the January transfer window, Xavi said the team might be busy adding new players.
He said: “We always want to reinforce the pieces we are missing.
“With Gavi’s injury we need a player with that profile, it’s clear.”
