Sports Desk- Lionel Messi claimed a record seventh La Liga golden boot after scoring twice in a 5-0 win over Alaves on Sunday as Barcelona ended their disappointing season on a more positive note.
Messi is the first player to finish as the league’s top scorer in seven different seasons. The Barca captain has won this fourth time in a row. Messi ended his La Liga season with 25 goals in 33 matches that are four goals more than Karim Benzema who sits at second.
Barca’s defeat to Osasuna on Thursday handed Real the title and brought scrutiny on all areas of the club, including the future of Quique Setien as coach.

Barcelona’s Leonal Messi has broken the 67-year-old record in the Spanish Football League La Liga. Messi has broken the Athletic Bilbao’s Telmo Jara (6 Award) record. Jara received this honor for the sixth time in 1953. No player could break this record since then.

After wins seventh golden boot, Messi added: “Individual prizes and objectives are secondary. It’s an important achievement to win it seven times but I would have liked it to have been accompanied by the La Liga title.”
