After spotting an arriving airplane to the UK, Arsenal supporters think their club is about to finalize a significant summer acquisition.
For the second straight year, Arsenal came in second to Manchester City in the Premier League title race last season, but Mikel Arteta’s team is predicted to be among the contenders in 2024–2025.
Despite signing goalkeeper David Raya on a permanent contract from Brentford following his excellent loan spell at the Emirates last season, they have had a rather quiet start to the summer transfer market.
However, the Gunners might soon finalize another agreement to increase Arteta’s choices.
According to reports, Arsenal has agreed to pay approximately €50 million (£42.2 million) to Bologna for the signing of Italy international Riccardo Calafiori.
Calafiori, who can play left back as well as central defence, is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Emirates.
On Friday morning, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Calafiori was scheduled to be in the UK that afternoon to finalize his transfer.
“Understand Riccardo Calafiori’s travel from Italy to London is being planned for today,” tweeted Romano.
“He’s expected to fly for first part of medical tests in London then time to join Arteta and his squad in the US.”
Arsenal fans think they’ve figured out which airline Calafiori is on and are following it to the United Kingdom.
“As soon as we have something to say, we will be the first one to say. You know I don’t like talking about external players, but this is the situation at the moment.”
Arteta was speaking following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in their first preseason friendly, which ended on penalties.
Early on Sunday morning, the Gunners will play another practice match against Manchester United as part of their preseason tour of the United States.
Prior to playing Wolves in their Premier League debut on August 17, they have friendlies remaining against Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, and Lyon.
