Morocco defeated Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-final which ended Cristiano Ronaldo’s biggest dream of winning the World Cup trophy. The whole world was in despair after watching one of the greatest athletes falling apart in tears.
After his team’s exit, Fernando Santos announced his resignation as Portugal’s head coach. Jose Mourinho is one of the best options for Portugal to replace Santos, not to mention he himself wants to manage them since it is his birth nation.
End of Morocco’s amazing campaign
France ended Morocco’s impressive World Cup run in the semi-final after their 2-0 victory over the African nation. But Morocco achieved a great milestone in this tournament as they became the only African country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup tournament.
Neymar’s Last World Cup tournament?
Before the start of the tournament, Neymar Jr. stated that it could be his last World Cup but he was not so sure about that. After Brazil’s defeat against Croatia, he denied his own statement.
“It’s too early to say that. I’ve no clear ideas yet — I can’t guarantee anything”, Neymar told ge.globo.
The Brazilian will be 31-years-old in February next year. The next World Cup will be held in 2026 and Neymar will be 35 by then which is undoubtedly too early for a player to retire in this modern generation.
Japan’s Heart-winning run
Japan could not qualify for the quarter finals but they gave their blood and sweat and showed the true worth of Asian nations to the world. They defeated Spain and Germany and gave a tough competition to Croatia during their amazing tournament campaign.
The Japanese fans also won everyone’s hearts with their actions off the field. They were seen cleaning up the stadiums after matches no matter if their team had won or lost.
