The Spain will face Scotland on the seventh matchday of the 2024 UEFA Euro qualifiers
Spain will seek retribution against Scotland in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Thursday night at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville.
Spain has responded well to their first defeat under new head coach Luis de la Fuente in just his second game in charge, putting together a four-game winning streak across two different competitions, lifting their first-ever UEFA Nations League trophy in the process.
De la Fuente’s men still have a lot of work to do if they want to dethrone Scotland at the top of Group A, as they are currently six points behind the Tartan Army with a game in hand.
A win on Thursday would move La Roja to within three points of Scotland heading into their final three qualification games.
Spain, rated 10th in the world by FIFA, will be certain of victory on Thursday, having won each of their last 24 Euro qualifying matches on home soil dating back to October 2003, including a 3-1 triumph over Scotland in their most recent home meeting in October 2011.
The 31st-ranked Scotland, who have won eight of their last nine competitive games, needs to avoid losing to Spain on Thursday in order to secure a spot in next year’s Euros in Germany.
Scotland also needs to earn six points from its remaining three qualification games in order to take first place in Group A.
Spirits are undoubtedly high in the Scotland camp right now, but they’ll be looking to recover from a 3-1 friendly loss to their archrivals England last month as they try to win in Seville for the first time on Thursday.
