Sergio Pérez, also known as “Checo,” is a Mexican racing driver who has competed in Formula One since 2011. Born on January 26, 1990, in Guadalajara, Mexico, Pérez began his racing career in karting, and quickly progressed through the ranks of the sport.
In 2007, Pérez made his debut in the National Class of the British Formula 3 Championship, and in 2008, he moved up to the Championship Class.
Although he did not win a race that year, his consistent performances caught the eye of the Sauber Formula One team, and in 2011, he was signed as a test driver.
Early Career
Pérez made his Formula One debut for Sauber in 2011, and immediately made an impact, scoring points in his first race in Australia. He went on to finish on the podium twice that year, in Malaysia and Canada, and he finished the season in 16th place in the drivers’ standings.
In 2012, Pérez continued to impress, scoring three podium finishes and finishing the season in 10th place in the drivers’ standings. He was also linked with a move to Ferrari, but ultimately stayed with Sauber for another season.
In 2013, Pérez moved to the McLaren team, but struggled to match the pace of his teammate, Jenson Button, and finished the season in 11th place in the drivers’ standings. He was dropped by McLaren at the end of the season, and spent a year as a reserve driver for the Force India team.

In 2015, Pérez returned to Force India as a race driver, and he immediately established himself as one of the best midfield drivers in the sport.
He scored five podium finishes that year, including a memorable third place at the Russian Grand Prix, and finished the season in ninth place in the drivers’ standings.
Mid Career
Over the next several years, Pérez continued to excel at Force India, scoring regular points and finishing the season in seventh place in the drivers’ standings in both 2016 and 2017. In 2018, he finished the season in eighth place, but he was overshadowed by the emergence of his young teammate, Esteban Ocon.
In 2019, Pérez remained with Force India, which had been rebranded as Racing Point, and he continued to be a consistent points scorer. He finished the season in 10th place in the drivers’ standings, but he was outscored by his teammate, Lance Stroll.

Recent Career
In 2021, Pérez signed with the Red Bull team, alongside Max Verstappen. He got off to a slow start, but gradually improved over the course of the season, scoring two wins and finishing the season in third place in the drivers’ standings, behind only Verstappen and Hamilton.
