Saqib Mahmood, born on February 25, 1997, in Birmingham, England, is an English cricketer known for his role as a right-arm fast bowler. He plays for Lancashire County Cricket Club and has represented England in all formats of the game. Mahmood is of British Pakistani descent, with family roots in Azad Kashmir.
Early Career
Mahmood gained recognition during the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he was the third-highest wicket-taker. He joined Lancashire’s senior team in 2015 and quickly made a name for himself in domestic cricket. Notably, he became the first Lancashire bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in consecutive List A matches during the 2019 Royal London One-Day Cup.
Domestic and International Achievements
In May 2021, he recorded his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket against Yorkshire. He made his international debut for England in a T20 match against New Zealand on November 3, 2019, followed by his One Day International (ODI) debut against South Africa on February 9, 2020. Mahmood’s Test debut came later on March 16, 2022, against the West Indies.
