Pakistan Super League (PSL) has gained immense popularity from the year it started. PSL also became the second most popular cricket league after IPL. But from his starting in 2016 tournament faced many controversies which resulted in the ups and downs of the league. PSL has always made to the headlines of newspapers with its controversies. #1 Fixing controversy of 2017
In the second edition of the league, it was reported that some players have done spot-fixing in matches and later on when investigated by ICC and PCB it resulted in six names who were involved in spot-fixing. Those players are Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan, and Mohammad Nawaz. They were accused of spot-fixing where Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were banned for 5 years in all forms of the game.
#2 Mobile Phone controversy of 2020
In the second match of the league in 2020 between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. One of the King’s officials was caught using a mobile phone in the team’s dugout. After his video and pictures went viral on social media Kings faced a lot of criticism as according to the rules only the team’s manager was allowed to use mobile phones.

Later Karachi King’s media official tried to defend the situation by saying that the one who was using the phone was the team’s manager but it was Navaid Rasheed who was a manager at that time.
#3 Ahmed Shehzad Vs Wahab Riaz in 2016
In the first season of PSL in a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators an incident of sledging took place between the two well-known players of Pakistan. It was the fifth over of the match when on the first ball Shehzad smashed a six over mid-wicket to Wahab Riaz and on the very next ball Wahab removed the stumps of Shehzad.
After taking the wicket Wahab celebrated with a loud cheer and also exchanged a few words with their head and in return, Shehzad too was not happy with him and he also started saying things to him. They both walked towards each other and they pushed each other. The umpire and other players separated them. Later they both were fined for their match fees.
#4 PSL 2021 postponed
2021 edition of PSL started well but things got out of hands after 6 players tested positive for Covid who was in bio bubble. After that one staff member of one of the teams also got positive which resulted in the cancellation of PSL 2021 by PCB. When the news came out PCB was criticized heavily as they were accused of not taking bio bubbles seriously. Things became more wore after Sohail Saleem who as the medical head in PCB gave his resignation from his post.

#5 England players controversy in 2017
PCB conducted the whole season two of the league successfully in the United Arab Emirates but they wanted the finals to be hosted in Lahore to set an image of the country that it is safe to play in Lahore but many England players along with many other overseas players refused the decision due to security. PCB then announced the extra bonuses of 10,000 to 50,000 USD but Kevin Pietersen and Tymall Mills were the two players who refused the bonus and they returned to England.
